What to Expect

Individual or Relational Coaching

Sessions last between 50 and 90 minutes.  The reason for the 40-minute difference is to allow time to focus on a topic and not feel pressed by time while still allowing for a wrap up once a topic has been covered.   It simply makes things more relaxed for you and the coach to let the dialogue unfold and take a natural progression as opposed to having to watch a clock to get everything in and covered in 50 minutes.

The cost is the same in either case.  You pay for the session and are not micro-billed for every 10 minute increment.

The first session is typically pretty easy and light.  The Coach will ask you to tell them about what your goals are and further questions to make sure that everyone is roughly on the same page.  The coach’s goal for this first appointment is to be able to accurately reflect back to the client and summarize immediate goals and first steps toward the goal(s).  There may or may not be homework from the first session. The client can expect homework for each session afterwards.  Every few sessions a segment of the session will be directed by the coach to pause and assess the progress made to that point.  The coach and client can determine if any adjustments need to be made to the original goal(s), or if the goals themselves need to be readjusted and redefined. While this review spends time on things already covered, it also serves as a review and clarification toward key goals and shifts focus away from potential distractions.  Often clients will readjust their goals as they progress and this allows both client and coach to be in synchronization for the future sessions and efforts.

Consulting

The first variable for Consulting is location.   The business owner and the Coach/Consultant have to have an initial dialogue to understand what the initial task(s) will be.  This may be better done away from the business or at the place of the organization or business.  This initial consult may take a few hours and a flat fee is charged.

Goals are identified and defined.  Barriers are discussed and then action stepsare determined.  Normally the initial actions steps are to observe, interview and assess the present functionality of the organization/business.  This can be a negotiated flat fee for a set amount of hours in assessment and reporting.

The next step is to review the Coach’s/Consultant’s conclusions and the determine plausibility of directional change and proactive steps to make the business/organization more efficient and functional.  Then a decision is made to proceed with the coach’s/consultant’s help or to internally attempt to address the issues.  This step is, like the initial step, a flat fee for a meeting that may last an hour to a few hours.

Including the Coach/Consultant in the actions steps is a fee that can be separately negotiated depending on how present and involved the coach is as opposed to the owner of the business/organization implementing the action steps with the coach used as a sounding board or available for specific areas needing more involved participation.
